Smoke Point Reference Fuel Blend intended to be used for calibration or verification of measuring equipment, method validation, method verification, or other quality control processes used to determine smoke point, applicable for the test method ASTM D1322, or test methods IP 598, IP 57, ISO 3014, or other applicable methods.
ARO's Smoke Point Reference Fuel Blends have been characterised by primary gravimetric preparation. The range of Smoke Point Reference Fuel Blends corresponds to listed smoke point values as per Table 1 in ASTM D1322 and IP 598. Manufacture and characterisation has been performed in accordance with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 17034.

The smoke point test method, smoke point reference fuel blends and certified reference materials are used for an indication of the relative smoke producing properties of kerosene and aviation turbine fuels in a diffusion flame. The smoke point is related to the hydrocarbon-type composition of such fuels. Generally, the more aromatic the fuel, the smokier the flame. A high smoke point number indicates a fuel of low smoke-producing tendency.

Certified values are metrologically traceable to the International System of Units (SI), where applicable, or to other stated references through a documented, unbroken chain of calibrations and/or measurements. Traceability is established using appropriately accredited Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs), National Metrology Institutes (NMIs), or other recognised providers of metrological traceability, including, where applicable, NPL, NIST, GUM and PTB.
